Starting hypnotherapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely natural to have questions about what it involves. To help you feel comfortable and informed, I’ve put together answers to some of the most common questions clients ask before beginning sessions.
Whether you’re curious about how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works, wondering what happens in a session, or want to know how many sessions you might need, the information below will guide you through what to expect.
Hypnotherapy uses relaxation and focused attention to help create positive changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It’s a safe, natural process that allows you to access your subconscious mind in a calm, relaxed state.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) doesn’t dwell on the past. It focuses on the present and future, helping you move towards your goals. It combines talking therapy with hypnosis to encourage positive change.
Yes — many people find hypnotherapy effective for reducing stress, improving confidence, breaking habits, and more. Like all therapies, results vary, and it’s most effective when clients are motivated and engaged in the process.
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a gentle, natural process. You’re simply guided into a relaxed, focused state — very similar to daydreaming. You will always remain fully in control.
That’s a common worry, but it’s impossible. Hypnosis is a natural state, and you can open your eyes or move whenever you wish.
No. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis — you’ll only ever work on goals you choose, and you’re always in control.
No. Hypnotherapy is a supportive, complementary therapy — it’s not a substitute for medical care. If you have a medical condition, always follow the advice of your doctor or healthcare provider.
Yes, hypnotherapy can be helpful for young people, particularly with issues like anxiety, confidence, or exam stress. Sessions are adapted to suit their age and needs. (Parental consent is always required for under 18s.)
This depends on what you’d like help with. Some goals, such as simple phobias, may take just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing weekly sessions. An average is around 8-12 sessions, but we’re completely customer focussed, so it all depends on what you feel you need.
Most sessions last around 50–60 minutes. A smoking cessation session is longer, usually around two hours.
I work from a dedicated, private garden studio in Weston-super-Mare. I also offer online sessions, which are just as effective — so you can choose the option that suits you best.
Not really — just bring yourself and an open mind. If you’re attending online, try to find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed, with a good internet connection. Headphones can be helpful, but they’re not essential.
